Hi guys!
Science - learned about seeds, germination and seedlings. plants need sun, light and soil to grow (they make their own food - they found this fascinating). started the seed bags, they'll be checking these everyday to make sure the paper towel is moist enough. one bag is to be put in the sunlight, the other in the dark. Isaac didn't do the Germination Train worksheet - might work well as a review.
History - learned about the Illiad (the story of the Trojan War) and the Odyssey (the story of Odysseus' journey home after the war) both written by Homer, the famous Greek poet. They did well on their personal summaries and pictures.
L.A. - learned about alphabetizing and the dictionary. They did very well with this. read the poem Washington in Childrens poetry book. They really liked it, we discussed Washington's life as presented in the poem. Reviewed verb tenses, months and sentence structure.
I'll post friday's lessons tomorrow, when we know if Ranae did any LA in class.
That's all for now. Rachelle

Ranae, this looks great! I've got some pics to download, too. Sorry for the all the sickness - let's hope it's nearly done....
Like we talked about, I think having them write their own short summary of the day's history lesson is a great idea. I think it would be ok to help them with spelling on this, so that when we use this for unit reviews we can read it and understand what they wrote. Also, I think having them date these and put the unit and lesson numbers would be helpful (for review purposes as well.) Let's put lined paper into their history folders for this purpose - having a lot of room to write is helpful to them. As I said before, I'd like to encourage them to write neatly without making too much of an issue out of it for this subject - let's limit that to phonics and language arts. However, I do think that making an issue out of the artwork and cutting projects is a good idea - maybe Suzy can provide some feedback on this.
I'm going to the library tomorrow - as long as Ella is reasonably healthy - because I need a book for Wed. science lesson. Do you guys need anything? OK, my first blog entry - how exciting!

congrads! You found our blog! Pretty cool, huh! I created this, because I hate to write in notebooks! I would much more rather type. anyway........
We had a great day today and got lots accomplished. Here is what we did:
LArts- read "Clouds" in our weather book. read chapters 3&4 in Amanda Pig (the fight chapter was halarious and they loved it!) they are getting to be such good readers, also read "Owl and the Pussy Cat". spent a lot of time on vocabulary for this story.
Science- learned out Thomas Edison, made a moving picture--see folder. It was so funny because David's was the only one that really turned out. Isaac and Holden were plowing through it and cutting jagged edges so it doesn't really turn well. David had those nice neat edges. So David! We also did the unit review and assesment. They aced this!
History- finished the Trojan Horse. They were so into this. I had them write their history record pages themselves and color a picture. Man, we need to work on handwriting! They were using capitals everywhere and run on sentances galore.
Music- lots of fun. we did a song from Greece (track 14) and moved to it using heavy and light movement (gets them ready for phrasing as well as emphasis on certain notes) they learned that this was an uneven meter and how we would clap this. We also drummed to a song from iceland (track 18) and learned the word syllables to the ostinato (du du dude dude). We listened to 3 more movements from the Carnival of the Animals (the cuckoo, birds, and the pianist). I will copy this CD when we finish it next week so everyone can listen at home. They are really enjoying this.
For next week-------
*Santy Maloney (track 16)
*Peas (track 20)
Get better Rachelle!
