2ND GRADE SCIENCE - Introduced physics with an easy lesson about force, how we use push or pull forces to move objects. they had fun with the experiment - pushing a pencil across the table (blowing, rolling, flicking) or trying to pull it (by sucking in their breathe!) we also moved a piece of styrofoam across a pan of water - for this they could move the water which would move the styrofoam, as well as blowing, pushing, etc. we looked around the room at objects and how you would use force to move them. it was a good lesson.
K SCIENCE - introduced the new unit on the body. we took their weight and height measurements and compared how people's bodies are the same and different. talked about people's hair color and texture, eye color, skin color, body shape and how many appendages we have. they told me 3 things that were special about themselves, so be sure to look at the handout for today. we made a life-size outline of their bodies and they colored them in. Nadia needs to finish hers if she wants to. Quinn was very relieved that we didn't have to try any new foods, it was the first question he asked on the way to my house. Nadia was disappointed that we weren't going to eat any pickles. they had fun, it was a good lesson.
