SCIENCE 2 - Reviewed yesterday's lesson and introduced the book and the rock collection. We talked about rocks' properties (characteristics) and how you can sort them according to property. We sorted them by texture, color, weight, shininess and then by combinations of properties. They are really excited about the rocks. We read all the names of the rocks they have and I told them they could bring some rocks from home for us to look at next Wed. They can't wait to pull out the magnetite and see if it's really magnetic :) I kept Isaac's box with me, so let me know Ranae if he wants it at home. We read the first few pages of the rock book and it's in their backpacks if they want to see it.
SCIENCE K - Learned about clouds - how they are made from water and why they have different shapes. I started talking about them in the car on the way home so they could look for different shapes. We cut out the paper camera and went outside to "take pictures" of clouds. They got really into this! We learned about cumulus, stratus, cirrus and cumulonimbus clouds and I showed them pictures from my weather book. They had fun looking at the pictures and doing the worksheet where they had to match the cloud shape with the weather. It was a good day.
