TUES. AND WED. FEB. 19-20

SCIENCE 2 - we learned about weathering (the wearing down of rocks by wind, water, earthquakes, plants) and erosion (when wind or water moves the particles of rocks and soil caused by weathering). did an experiment using plaster of paris to show how water expands and creates cracks in rocks and one where beans are soaked in water and they expand and break a cup open. did an experiment placing soil on a clay "mountain" and blowing it off to simulate wind, then pouring water over the soil to demonstrate how wind and water move soil/rock particles. they had fun with these and they want to paint the plaster of paris!

SCIENCE K - learned about the different types of water on earth - rivers, streams, lakes, oceans, and ponds. talked about how streams and rivers can flow together and flow into lakes or oceans. finished the models of land and water by adding rivers, ponds and waterfalls. reviewed land shapes and continents. they had fun and were excited about their models.

HISTORY 2 - learned about the fairs that took place when people made pilgramages to cathedrals. the fairs had merchants from all over Europe, jugglers, jousting tournaments, musicians and acrobats. there where processions to the cathedral where a Mass would be held. they wrote good summaries for me about this. we also learned about Eleanor of Aquitaine who became queen of France, got divorced and became queen of England. she was feisty and fought in wars and also ruled England while King Henry was away at war. she had 8 children and many grandchildren and so many of them became kings and queens in Europe (by her doing) that she became known as the Grandmother of Europe. she lived to be 88, extremely old for medieval times. the boys aced the unit assessment. they are very upset that this unit if over :(

We need the next unit handouts for History 2.
