We had a great day yesterday---all 5's for everyone----yeah!
Kmusic- We did our weather story again with different percussion instruments. We danced like the wind with scarves, we listened to different bird sounds and tried to identify them. We also learned that 2 8th notes are "tee tee" and they all read simple rhythms from the board and played them on the shakers. We learned a new song game called "Blue Bird". It was a fun class.
World Music-- for the 1st half of class, we listened and danced to "Mardi Gras Mambo". It took them a while to guess that this song was from North America. We then talked about how it was from Louisiana and what Mardi Gras was (sparring them all the details :-)). Next week I will through in the music history part of the lesson. For the second half of the class I introduced the boomwhackers. We did a fun boomwhaker game and them started working on "Jingle Bells" for our Christmas concert. They really seemed to like being in an ensemble together, so I think we will do this every week. The K's caught on quickly.
KHistory- We finished up the unit on Europe. We visited Italy and talked about the sights there (Leaning tower, Colusseum, Mt. Etna). I then read them "Straga Nona" which takes place in Italy and is about an out of control magic pasta pot. We will be passing this around since they really liked it. I took them out one by one and asked them the Europe review questions. I thought this was better than the assesment they had. They colored some of their postcards and that was all we had time for. They can color them at home if they would like. We are on to Asia today and next week.
2nd grade Ensemble- they are getting so much better on their recorder! We did some echoing games for ear training and worked on finished pg. 8. If they didn't pass off all the songs on this page, they need to practice them for next week. I asked them to practice pg. 9 for homework. We reviewed a few songs. It think they will have some great songs for our Christmas concert!
Everyone should have gotten their pictures. If you want to order some, I would like to place an order on Friday. Just tell e-mail me what you would like, that way we can save on shipping. If you would like to wait, you can order them anytime from shutterfly and can get the pass code from me.
Have a great week!
