HISTORY K - Went to Saudi Arabia and read a story about 3 brothers who go to visit the king in Riyadh in the middle of the desert. Learned about the head scarves and camels and talked about The Arabian Nights. Read Alibaba and the 40 Theives (I left a few gory details out) and read a story about Sinbad and the giant bird called a Roc. Ella and I made hummus in the morning and we all tasted that (except for Quinn) and ate flat bread. It was a good lesson.
WEDNESDAY OCT. 24
HISTORY 2 - learned about Attila the Hun and how he terrorized what was left of the Roman Empire before he died peacefully in his sleep after partying too much. The boys were captivated by this story and very worried about the fall of the Roman empire. We learned about how after Attila the Hun died there was chaos in Western Rome and one of Attila's generals made his 6 year old son emperor. That lasted for 10 months and then the barbarians overthrew him and Rome fell. The barbarians formed little kingdoms all around the Western territory. The boys asked, "but the Eastern Empire was still ok? right?" They are sad to see it all go....
SCIENCE 2 - more fun with magnets. they really understand the concept. they know that the earth is a big magnet and that magnetite is stone magnetized from the iron in the earth. they have fun just playing with the magnets and making them spin. we pulled out the compasses, too and talked more about that. It was a good day, except for my sudden illness:)
Suzy and Ranae, thanks for covering for me today. I'll do the big boy's science next week in place of the optional one on compassesj (they already get this). and we'll do the kindergarten science lesson on our own - it's "what animals eat." Thanks again!
