Tuesday Art Oct. 2, 07

K Art- Last week the awesome kindergartners did 3 art lessons. Tuesday we did Unit 3 lessons 1 and 2. We looked at self-portraits of several famous artists. Traced their faces with our fingers. We looked at the galleries in both lessons and did the activity in lesson 2 that highlighted the features of the face. Mostly review. Lesson 2 we looked at the features of the whole body and they did a whole body drawing.

Thursday K Art- lesson 3 Meet Picasso. He was born in Spain. He studied art in France. When he first started to paint at the young age of 23 he went through a blue period (painted blue pictures) mainly because he was hungry, cold and glum. Nadia and Ella were very concerned about Picasso being hungry and didn't understand why people would not buy his paintings so he could buy food. When he fell in love he went through a pink period of painting. When he was older he was the one of the first painters to rearrange body parts of a portrait painting and paint from his imagination (abstractly). I sent home assessments on this lesson. All three of them do great on the assessments and answer with little prompting. They are so eager too learn.

Next week family portraits.

2ND grade Art- Unit 3 lessons 1 and 2.

Lesson 1 - We looked at patterns and alternating patterns in art work. Mainly review except I have a lot more prints to look at; great discussion. We looked at patterns in leaves and in jungle prints. They practiced drawing leaves as a worm-up for the jungle painting.
Lesson 2 - Meet Henri Rousseau. He was born in France. He loved rain forests. He used his imagination to combine different plants and wild animals to create make-believe rain forests. He uses many different shapes and patterns. He uses many different tints and shades of green. You have two of Rousseaus jungle prints on from 1st and 2ND grade prints. The jungle paintings the boys did; I had them mix different shades of green first.
There jungle paintings turned out great. I think the boys like to work with water colors. Although the boys do need a lot of prompting with art assessments right now?

2nd grade History on Tuesday the boys need Pompeii: Buried Alive reader.

The baby shower was fun! I can't wait t meet baby Eve.
